Copies and serials

Every relic has a fixed supply. Each copy gets the next serial number (#007/064 is the seventh of 64) and its own id. A serial is never given out twice, even if its copy is later burned. Every change of hands is written to the relic ledger, a chain where each entry is sealed with a fingerprint of the one before it, and the forum checks the whole chain every day. Anyone can see a copy's history on its page.

Catching relics

  • Hidden relics peek out of posts around the forum. The first member to click one catches it. They stay for about 24 hours.
  • Drops are typing races announced a few minutes ahead. When one starts, a command appears on every page: type it (pasting doesn't count) and press Enter. The first to type it win; you get five tries, and one win per drop per network.

You can catch up to 25 hidden and wild relics a day, with 5 seconds between catches.

Showing them off

Your relics sit in the cabinet on your profile's Relics tab. Pin one to show it next to your name on your posts, and embed any copy you hold in a post with [RELIC]copy-id[/RELIC] (the copy's page has the code). Choose who sees your cabinet under Account → Relics.

Trading

Trades are relic for relic: there's no currency, and relics are never bought or sold. Open Relics → Trades, or "Offer a trade" on another member's relic, then pick up to 8 of your relics and up to 8 of theirs.

  • Fixed offers: once sent, an offer can't be edited. Changing it, or answering with a counter-offer, makes a new offer and cancels the old one.
  • Escrow: what you offer is held for that trade: it can't be offered, pinned or moved anywhere else until the offer is answered, withdrawn or expires (48 hours).
  • Confirming: sending and accepting both need your password. When a Legendary is on either side, use a passkey or your two-step code instead. Accept only works a few seconds after you open the offer, so take a look first.
  • Legendary window: a trade with a Legendary settles 24 hours after it's accepted. Until then either of you can cancel it, and both of you get an email with a "this wasn't me" link that freezes your relics.
  • Trade hold: relics you receive can be traded again after 7 days.
  • Limits: 10 open offers at a time and 20 new offers a day. Accounts that share an IP address or a device can't trade with each other, and trading pauses for 72 hours after a password change.

Root relics

Root relics are one of a kind. Only the forum owner can grant them, they're bound to whoever holds them (never traded), and when their holder embeds one in a post, it plays its effect for readers once a day. You can turn effects off in your relic settings; they never play if your device asks for reduced motion.
